Creating a New Way to Game in Virtual Reality
Virtual reality has quickly progressed from a novel toy into a powerhouse of entertainment potential. However, the use of the technology has applications far beyond scope of fighting dragons in person. Virtual reality is adaptable to nearly any possible need or scenario, giving it limitless potential for use in businesses of all types. Using virtual reality to train for any situation or position, provide a virtual environment to work from, and providing safety for all employees are some of the many options virtual reality provides.
The Future Of On-The-Job Training
On the job training can be a time consuming and costly undertaking for any business. Some jobs, such as police officers or doctors, are difficult to train for, and often require first hand experience for training to truly take hold. Virtual reality provides the opportunity for first hand experience training without the trainee even stepping outside. The six degrees of freedom offered by virtual reality allow people to be inserted into scenarios without risk for the company. While a police officer might be trained for a rigorous hostage situation, a chef can learn to use a fryer without danger of damaging equipment or self injury. Should a person fail to grasp their training and need to run through training again, this can be done without having to reset a scene, waste company resources by using ingredients or products again. The best usage for training as well is that you do not need to take up more space than a small room to complete the training, allowing for exercises that could make use of an entire building without having to disrupt a company’s daily routine.
Looking to virtual reality to cut company cost
One of the greatest benefits of the internet is the ability to “be” somewhere in a moment’s notice, despite actually being located many miles away. Virtual reality can extend that to newer heights, while also lowering costs for the company. Instead of having to jet an expert in to look at a mockup of a project, a manager can be instantly transported into a world with a complete working design of a project without leaving their home. Not only do you gain the instant access to expertise that the internet provides, but you also gain the ability to test theories and run scenarios without having to even be in the same country. This allows for the ability to try new things and risky paths without actually having the company provide supplies.
How VR helps meet safety needs during a crisis
Safety in the workplace is of course a key concern for every company. Most importantly during the current pandemic that our world is going through, the need to protect your workers is higher than ever before, and extends to every part of the corporate ladder. Virtual reality makes this problem almost non existent, allowing meetings to be held in a professional setting without having to be next to each other. Disasters such as workplace violence and harassment are also negated when the workplace is a virtual one. With everyone safe in their own homes, working in a virtual environment provides employees a workspace where their minds are on their jobs, not on their safety. If someone happens to be sick or ill, they can still assist in work without the fear of spreading disease to other coworkers.
The future could see mass VR adoption in corporate locations
Virtual reality can benefit companies in many ways. As the technology expands and becomes less expensive, the benefits it provides will only increase. The flexibility which it provides for training, work environments and safety are much greater than standard methods using only paper and computers. The more businesses see these benefits, the more virtual reality will become a mainstay in offices and business in the future.
